NDA Works to Improve Public Land for Deer Hunting and Conservation
The National Deer Association’s mission is to ensure the future of wild deer, wildlife habitat and hunting. Declines in deer hunter numbers, habitat quality and access are all having significant negative impacts on wildlife conservation. Recent trends suggest declining deer harvests on some federal lands is likely the result of diminishing acreage in active management, and access is continually listed as a major barrier for new and veteran hunters alike. Thus, NDA launched a national initiative entitled Improving Access, Habitat and Deer Hunting on Public Lands, with a goal of improving one million acres by 2026.
What has been accomplished so far toward this project? To-date and along with valuable conservation partners like the USDA Forest Service, NDA has invested $4.9 million, addressed landscape-level access and forest health issues in 18 states, and has helped improve over 745,000 acres of public land - well above pace to reach the five-year goal. In 2023 alone NDA received a $200,000 grant from Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund to directly support the public lands initiative, matched $360,043 in cash and in-kind contributions, and secured an additional $2.2 million in federal funding, creating a total funding leverage of nearly 13-to-1 for conservation.
Follow along in this video to see examples of projects occurring on National Forests in Idaho, Mississippi and Kentucky, to hear why this critical work is so important in each community, and what it means for the people that use and enjoy our Nation’s public lands.

Переглядів 8935 місяців тому
Dogs have been used in wildlife conservation efforts for years and they may soon be able to help with Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). A proof-of-concept study conducted by Penn Vet’s Working Dog Center has shown that dogs can differentiate feces of CWD-positive white-tailed deer from those that are negative. Members of the Wildlife Futures Program’s Conservation K9 Team are currently field testi...

How Fast do Bucks React and Recover From Hunting Pressure?
Good informative video, Thank you.
I just shot my 2023 buck and sent it to get TRW. DNr aged it at 7-8 years old. Then I sent it to lab to get tested and cementum aluni done. It came back at 9.5 years old. Got a certificate from it!
Is their a difference in meat between farm raised or wild?
Different species react differently. They all also react differently during different seasons.
Thank you so much for this.
You're welcome.
I would also suggest bare skin needs to have deep woods Off on it for protection
Why does some states give extra anlerless????
I have persimmons, but always wondered why they didnt fruit…now i know, i have male persimmons
Very likely. But it also could be because they are very young trees. They usually don't flower (male or female) until they are a few yeas old and growing in full sunlight.
Ok question, how about clovers is that good for deer ?
Here in Southwest Missouri- I'm prepping some ground for a plot. Moving forward, I'm thinking I'll plant BWheat mid-June, then mow & rake it mid-August. At that point, my plan is to broadcast and aerate oats, ladino clover, and cereal rye into what I'm hoping becomes a real "honey-hole". I would appreciate your thoughts regarding my plan!!!
is it affect on human
You dont have positive results if you you dont have deer !!! Deal with the real issues !
Thank you so much I didn’t know where to start deer hunting. None of my family hunt and I’d really like to start thank you again 🙌🏾
You're welcome! Hope this is helpful. Please look up our Field to Fork program on our website.
Good thinking I don’t eat deer meat at all
Im going no-mow this year and leaving the rye standing. It was only seeded about 50lb/ac and the perennials seem to benefit from the vertical support
When does the 2024 report come out?
Excellent info. And I loved the opportunity to test your learning at the last part of the video.
And that's exactly why human hunters aren't equipped to hunt in the first place.
What would our ancestors do ? What have they done ? I’m sure there were diseases back then that don’t exist now in animals. I’m kill and eat what god put on this earth for me period. More deer for me please don’t come in the woods you might get cwd by touching the grass ;).
With Pig Brig, it’s new to the hogs, or they don’t perceive it as a threat because it gives them the sensation of underbrush when the hogs root under and through the netting (i.e., conditioning mode). The only frantic behavior happens when humans arrive, and the hogs are killed or hauled away, thus unable to learn that Pig Brig is a threat (or if they do, it’s too late for them). It’s the best trap I’ve seen so far!
Its a bond forged in the fires of a common struggle.
Shouldn't you apply chemicals below any branches or cut off the branches below the girdle?
Youre telling me i dont want to fall on my chainsaw on purpose? Well i never knew, thanks for pointing that out…i planned on using my chainsaw to trim my nails, is that safe? I also was going to use my chainsaw to open my beer bottles and cut my vegetables and steak…what is your safety guidance on those activities?
When does it become every youtubers job to warn people about how to use a chainsaw safely or be safe…if a person buys a chainsaw and cuts his leg off…thats on that person…my stihl dealer doesnt make me sign a waiver telling me to be safe…. Im just tired of it, its the same thing with guntubers…they gotta show fifty times that a gun is unloaded…its like…if you are in the comments talking about whats safe and whats not safe…get a life ya nerd..nobody gives a shit…
Get them antlers and not the sticks in a sack unless you have a handicap.
This is so relatable to me in so many ways I could’ve never understood prior to my late start at hunting in 2019. I spent my whole life up until 37 with a curiosity toward hunting, but never was ready to bridge the gap and try it until my then 8 year old son asked if he could try it. The moment he shot his first deer on opening day of Missouri rifle season, would forever be the moment that felt as if my eyes were opened for the first time and I would never be the same. Truly one of the happiest moments I’ve ever felt. And the profound realizations and appreciations I’ve had, with and without my kids with me, with every minute spent in the deer woods, just keep building stronger each passing season. I’m forever grateful to have finally found hunting, but even moreso, to now try daily to let it be my avenue to help me leave this place better than I found it.
YES, YOU CAN !
Last week a neurological journal reported two human cases that seemed to be CWD.
what about some kind birth control.
Apparently two hunters died from it recently
Covid and the mRNA gene therapy jab are related to this disease. More evidence this was created like Covid. Prion crystals are the new mass weapon.
You'd think, since I live in white-tail country (the NY Catskills) I would have heard about honking the horn. But this is the first I've known about it. I'll sure use it from now on!
Prion
Thanks!
Thank you!
Can you rattle during rifle season?
LOVE IT!
Great organization! I with the NC State Game lands would let us volunteer with habitat improvements
Are yall working with jefferson national forest in VA too?
Right on!
You don't need to spray a tree that has been girdled, you've already broken the cambium layer and the tree is guaranteed to die. Granted some trees will create a bunch of suckers but not the tree in the video.
I plant both every year and leave it stand for spring greenup for deer and turkey.
Smart and efektif trap
Great information! God bless y’all!!!!
THANKS !!!!
LEAD - US FEED THEM LEAD COVERED COPPER JACKET ..
Quit feeding the deer if u have to u are a huge cheater
What if I like deer 🦌
People from 2024
should you do prescribed burns BEFORE cutting and girdling?
The order isn't critical, but it's generally best to get sunlight on the ground first, before you burn. Fire can't produce a pulse of plant growth if there's no sunlight reaching the ground, so if you burn first, you'd need to immediately follow up with forest stand improvement.
They did have the best made in USA now nets are made in China
Saw a deer 2 days having a whole body spasms while walking with it's 3 other deer. (full body meaning, it fell once; then few ft later, half way fell, with jerking motions). DNR only allows reporting in the tool if one can indicate the treatment or death. Not sure where to report it.
